Our record for Lliswerry
In 2022 we asked you to trust four local independents. This is what we have done with that trust.
New play areas and training facilities
Brand new play areas and training facilities at Black Ash, Moorland and Lysaght's Park, and completely upgraded facilities at Oliver Park. We are not finished yet.
No One Left Behind Fund
We created the No One Left Behind Fund, £500,000 a year for Newport's communities that have missed out, with local people deciding where the money goes. When changes to the deprivation index meant this year's fund went to Bettws, we secured an extra £250,000 for Broadmead Park and Moorland Park, and asked residents how it should be spent.
Costed alternative budgets when needed
When needed, we have put forward a fully costed alternative to big council tax rises. Our opposition helped stop plans to close local libraries and shrink community centres, and in 2026/27 we backed a framework that delivered a £40 million highways package and £8.4 million more for schools.
Fair funding for our children
Newport spends less per pupil than any other council in Wales. We brought a motion calling for a long-term plan to close that gap.
Pont Faen shops
We pushed for more police patrols and dispersal orders. Anti-social behaviour reports have fallen from a peak of 15 in a month in 2023 to almost none.
Keeping the lights on
We opposed midnight street light switch-offs and kept the pressure on the council to reverse the overnight policy.
Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour
Our notice of motion to full council made city centre safety a priority, backed by a call to review out-of-date traffic rules that local traders say keep shoppers away.
Standing up for drivers
We oppose closing M4 junctions around Newport and challenged the £40.4 million plan to remove the Old Green roundabout against a 1,900-signature petition.
Closing the HMO loophole
Our motion to join up planning and licensing for houses in multiple occupation won cross-party support.
Cleaner streets
Regular community litter picks, a constant push on fly-tipping and overgrown paths, and opposition to three-weekly bin collections.
The Lysaght Institute
When Codi Group announced it would stop running the Lysaght Institute at the end of 2026, we called a public meeting and are working to secure its future.
Standing up for residents
When decisions go against residents, we stand with them, as we have for Hillview Crescent, Thompson Avenue, Walsall Street, Milner Street, Traston Lane and Kitty Hawk Drive.
Flood prevention
Out inspecting our reens to make sure they are free of blockages, and delivering sandbags to residents when they are needed.
Regular ward walkabouts
Walking the ward to keep our streets clear of fly-tipping, our pavements free of weeds, and overgrowth cut back so residents can get about safely.
Surgeries every month
Monthly ward surgeries, fortnightly walkabouts and street surgeries across the ward, and more than 1,000 cases taken up by Andrew alone.
