Our promise to you

Our pledges

In 2022 we made six promises. We have kept them, and we make them again.

  1. You will see us out and about

Street surgeries, walkabouts and litter picks in every corner of the ward.

  2. You will hear from us

Regular updates here, on Facebook and through your door.

  3. We will lead from the front

Organising public meetings and community events, from the Lysaght Institute meeting to the Santa's Sleigh Run.

  4. We will represent you, not ourselves

No national party whip. Every vote we cast is for Lliswerry.

  5. We will publish our contact details

You can always reach us. See Contact.

  6. We will not take your support for granted

We earn your vote by the work we do between elections.

2027 to 2032

What we will fight for next

Four independent councillors can’t promise to run the council. What we can promise is to fight for these, every day of the next term.

  1. Your money, scrutinised

Scrutinise every council budget line by line. Where it’s right for Lliswerry we’ll back it, and where it isn’t we’ll put forward a fully costed alternative.

  2. Fair funding for our schools

Keep pushing until Newport closes the per-pupil funding gap with the Welsh average, by changing how existing money is shared out, not by raising council tax.

  3. Broadmead and Moorland Park

See the £250,000 for Broadmead Park and Moorland Park spent the way residents told us they want it, and keep the No One Left Behind Fund going every year.

  4. Finish the job on our parks

Keep improving play areas and sports facilities, and protect what’s been delivered.

  5. Fight for our youngsters

Press for more for young people to do and safe places to meet.

  6. Reens, flooding and cleaner streets

Get the reen back into council maintenance, and keep up the pressure on flooding, fly-tipping, overgrown paths and road repairs.

  7. Safer streets

Fight for safer streets across Lliswerry and the city centre, pressing for patrols, enforcement and street lighting that stays on.

  8. Take on the traffic

Push for action on congestion on the Southern Distributor Road, and oppose M4 junction closures, tolls and the plan to remove the Old Green roundabout.

  9. Report back to you

Publish an annual report to residents showing progress on every pledge.
